Running Aurakingdom.to on Linux via Bottles

Note: This game is really spaghetti coded. You may have instances of random crashes/freezes. It does look like it happens on Windows too but on Linux via this method it happens a lot more frequently.

Tested on a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 with a GTX 3050 Mobile and 11th Gen Intel-i5 running Linux Mint 22.1

I would like to thank Galaeo, Patchouli, and Meru (He got to watch this mess) for helping me through setting this up. I hope this guide can be of use to other AK.TO players!

Pre-reqs:

  • Bottles (Use the official flatpak, not your distro's repos)
  • The game zip installed. Sadly you can only install the game zip from their discord which you can find on their website.
  • A lot of patience
  • Insanity

    • Setting up the bottle

    Before you go ahead and create a bottle you first need to install Caffe. Caffe is another fork of Wine that has been the most stable for me in my experience.

    To install it first visit perferences in the right hand corner then go under runners.

    Once you do that you can now go ahead and create a new bottle by clicking the plus in the left hand corner.

    You can name the bottle anything you want. Be sure to select the Gaming option and for Runner select Caffe.

    After that you need to select the bottle and we need to install some dependencies to get the game running. Go under the options section and click Dependencies. You are going to want to search for vcredist2010 and 2013.

    Go back and now go to settings and change the Windows version to 7. Windows 10 may work so you can try that and if it doesn't work just switch to Windows 7.

    Adding the game and installing

    Now you can unzip the game files and place the folder into the Bottle's drive_c folder as for some reason the installer will not launch in any other directory.

    To open the bottle drive_c folder just go into the bottle and in the right hand corner select the 3 dots and click on "Browse Files...".

    You can also find it at this directory:

    /home/YOURUSERNAME/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/THENAMEOFTHEBOTTLE/drive_c

    Once you place the folder you can now go back to bottles and add the installer a short cut.

    After you do that you can just go through the installer.

    Running the launcher/game

    Now we will add the game launcher as a shortcut in Bottles. It is done in the same way as we did previously with the installer. All you have to do is add the launcher.exe file in the newly created aurakingdom folder.

    Once you do that, launch the game and wait for the launcher to check all files.

    Once it's done the Play button should change colour and you will be able to launch the game and (mostly) enjoy playing!

    Other things to note

    Tabbing out during loading scenes may crash the game.

    Using the Cinnamon Desktop Environment on Wayland does not launch the game.
