Ah yes the great list of how I have messed up my Linux installs. This is a lesson of what not to do, usually caused by thinking im smarter than I am, doing something really stupid, or just being REALLY freaking stupid. I hope you can laugh and enjoy this list of failures.

Some of these listed may not be fully messed up in the traditional sense but they either cause me to reinstall either due to a lack of intelligence or laziness.

  • Trying to install a modern version of KDE Plasma on Linux Mint by using KDE Neon repos thinking it would be fine just because they are based on the same distro. Instead it kills any KDE install and breaks a lot of packages who could have guessed that would happened. NEVER DO THIS!!!
  • Accidently deleted Wifi drivers somehow whilst deleting Pi-hole on my Debian 12 server. It was to aids to figure out which package was missing so I just reinstalled the whole thing as I didn't have much setup yet.
  • I was bored trying to install Systemd on Artix (a non Systemd version of Arch) in a VM, because who doesn't want to do that on a Summer afternoon, it ended up making the system unable to even run the shutdown command and wouldnt boot ever again.I think the best thing to do is to just replace the package mirrors but that sounded boring to me. Systemd my beloved. It was also funny after I updated Artix when I first finished the install it never wanted to boot any desktop environment or window manager again.
  • Multiple times when updating EndeavorOS, on my Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3, it would shit itself and it would boot into emergency mode and I would just reinstall every time. I have not had this happen to me when using Arch which is odd since EndeavorOS seemed to me just Arch with a Calamares installer and some extra packages.
