I Got a New Monitor

29-01-2026

So at the end of December I decided to buy a new monitor. I have been using my laptop screen up until that point and I found it really uncomfortable and found my back slouching a lot. After watching some reviews I decided on an ASUSTek COMPUTER INC VG249QL3A T9LMTR000176 (wow what a catchy name) for about $120.

The reason(s) I decided to get it was that

This does mean that I would no longer be using the 4:3 (or it was 5:4 I forgot) Monitor that I used as the second screen. It was actually fairly nice to use as a second screen but before the Asus monitor came I ended up somehow bending the pins on the garbage HDMI to VGA cable I got and just stopped using it.

On the left you have a 4:3 (or 5:4 i dont know) Dell monitor hooked up to the Laptop in the middle propped up on a box with a laptop stand as well.

Unfortunately, it would take over a month to arrive for a reason I am not really sure of. I thought it was just bugged and that it would eventually update to something sooner but that didn't wind up happening.

When it showed up I had work that day so I had to really rush to get it all setup before I went to work so I could just enjoy it once I got back. The first thing I had to do was to hook it up to my server in my parents room because I forgot to unblock the SSH port on ufw and instead of just asking my brother to borrow his monitor I just decided to wait a week when the monitor would arrive. I then got it setup on my table before having to run off to work sadly.

For osu! standard, I was told by my friend Ludo that it took them awhile to get adjusted to a 24 inch monitor screen instead of a smaller laptop screen but I managed to get adjusted after 2 days. Maybe this could have been due to the fact they are a tablet player and that uses absolute positioning instead of mouse using relative positioning. For CTB I played just as fine as I did before except it felt smoother due to the higher refresh rate. I haven't tried Mania or Taiko yet.

Picture of my setup with a black desk, laptop on the left, monitor in the middle, with a white keyboard and a black mouse. There is also a purple hedgehog and a pink towel under the keyboard to reduce noise.

As of now I am pretty happy with my overall setup. I don't see a need to upgrade or change out anything yet other than maybe a proper laptop stand for better cooling/height and a mousepad since the one I have is getting pretty dirty even after cleaning it multiple times.

I could see myself getting a rapid trigger keyboard at some point that also supports QMK (so I can adjust layers) but I don't feel a need for it now and hopefully the longer I wait the cheaper it gets. Surely not foreshadowing right please im begging you.
